The lessons Evangelos Manginas taught his family during a lifetime of hard work will live on as they work to keep his beloved restaurant, Zito Pizzeria and Grill, open after he was struck and killed by a car Friday night along Healy Drive.
But today and in the immediate weeks to come, the restaurant will remain closed.
Manginas, 60, died after he was hit by a car while trying to cross Healy Drive in Winston-Salem. He was headed north about 7:21 p.m. when he was struck by a westbound 2003 Toyota, Winston-Salem Police said.
Manginas was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.
The restaurant, which is located off Healy Drive, posted on its Facebook page that it will be closed until further notice due to a family emergency.
“We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience. God bless you,” the post said.
But the restaurant will reopen. Daughter Victoria Manginas said the restaurant will be closed for several weeks while the family copes with the loss of Manginas.
“I plan to come back and reopen it in my father’s memory,” she said. “We are going to need patience. This is my father’s legacy.”
